CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is the primary modality for the detection of pulmonary embolism. I It determines the location and extent of the thrombus and helps visualize thrombus in the pulmonary arteries and assess the hemodynamic effect of PE. Simultaneouslymediastinal and pleuro-parenchymal structures can be evaluated. CT findings in acute PE include central, intraluminal filling defects in pulmonary arteries and branch points of pulmonary arteries. It also shows plueral effusions, wedge shaped pulmonary infarcts and linear bands. In cases with chronic PE eccentric thrombus adherent to vessel wall, irregular thickened vessel wall, Enlarged central pulmonary arteries and bronchial arteries can be noted.
