Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), is the most common method used to measure a Bone Mass Density (BMD). The peripheral DEXA machines are specifically used to measure BMD at the heel (calcaneus), shin bone (distal tibia), and kneecap (patella). DEXA helps in predicting risk of fractures and determines the treatment.
