PET is more sensitive in detecting the malignant tumors and differentiating from benign lesion. PET imaging is done by using radiolabeled markers such as 18F-2-deoxy?d?glucose (FDG) which differentiates between benign and malignant abnormalities as small as 1cm. PET is preferred than CT in detecting the mediastinal nodal metastases.
