PET measures brain blood flow and metabolic activity. PET helps in differentiating AD from vascular and other dementias and helps in early detection of AD. Glucose metabolic PET with FDG detects early neocortical dysfunction. FDG PET correlates with AD neuropathology and provides the details of progression of AD. It also shows brain biological changes related to AD.
