Scleroderma |
Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease of the connective tissue that involves hardening and firming of skin, alterations in blood vessels, muscles, and internal organs characterized by fibrosis. Localized scleroderma affects only skin. Systemic scleroderma affects skin, blood vessels and internal organs. Lung fibrosis with or without pulmonary hypertension, is the commonest pulmonary manifestation of scleroderma.
HRCT is used for the detection of inflammatory changes in scleroderma and the extent of morphological changes. The reticulation present on CT scanning correlates with histological fibrosis. CT of lungs visualizes esophageal dilation.
