Myopathy is a neuromuscle disease in which it affects the skeletal muscles (upper arm, biceps) due to failure of muscle fiber function. The symptoms are muscle weakness, muscle cramps, stiffness. The major reasons for myopathy are inherited genetic defects, endocrine disorders, and metabolic disorders.

For routine purposes imaging studies are rarlely invoved. These are used to detect biopsy sites. Radinuclide scanning can assess the extent and severity in inflammatory myopathies and helps in biopsy site determination. Ultrasound is used in children for biopsy site. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has broad applications in evaluating morphology of muscles in myopia patients. MRI is more sensitive in detecting areas of muscle edema and abnormality which helps in muscle biopsy.
