Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune neurologic disease associated with scattered plaques of scarring in the central nervous system CNS (brain, spinal cord and optic nerves). The hardened plaques of scar tissue located at multiple sites throughout the CNS. The major symptoms are Visual disturbances, muscle weakness, loss of coordination and feeling numbness, prickling sensation.
The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis is done by MRI and examination of cerebrospinal fluid. Conventional MRI used to detect focal white matter lesions. Contrast MRI helps in differentiating between acute inflammatory from non inflammatory lesions.
