Colorectal cancer, involves cancerous growths in the colon, rectum or both. Colorectal cancer is the second commonest cancer arising in the UK. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease, both ulcerative colitis and crohn's colitis, have a higher risk of developing Colorectal cancer.

Imaging has become major in the management of patients with cancer. When colorectal neoplasm develops the accurate diagnosis is required for correct treatment. Colonography by computed tomography (CT) or Magnatic resonance imaging (MRI) are performed to evaluate the whole bowel anatomy and screening of metastases in distant tissues. MRI is performed for imaging neoplasia and inflammatory bowel disease such as colitis ulcerosa or crohn's disease. Computed tomography (CT) is used for preoperative staging. CT clearly depicts the operative area, particularly after abdominoperitoneal resection, and can be used to guide percutaneous biopsy of masses. Endoluminal Ultra Sound detect the early disease and in those with rectal carcinoma in which limited surgery might be performed.
